After a tough loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final last Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian cricket team in the dressing room in Ahmedabad. Suryakumar Yadav, a key player in Team India, shared insights about PM Modi dropping by the dressing room. The PM comforted the players. Had conversations with captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja. He also personally met every player on the team. Jadeja and Shami expressed their gratitude on their official X (formerly Twitter) accounts. By posting a picture with the prime minister and thanking him for his gesture.
During the final, PM Modi and Australia’s deputy prime minister Richard Marles were at the stadium. They both presented the prestigious World Cup trophy to the victorious captain Pat Cummins in the post-match ceremony.
This week, Team India got back into T20 action with Suryakumar Yadav, a member of the World Cup squad, leading the team. Suryakumar played in the final and met PM Modi in the dressing room. He shared extensive details about the encounter during the ongoing T20I series against Australia.
Suryakumar Yadav express his gratitude to PM Modi
On Saturday, Suryakumar Yadav thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for uplifting words after India’s tough World Cup loss. He assured that the team would maintain the same spirit for the upcoming T20 World Cup. India’s hope of winning the ODI World Cup after 12 years shattered with a six-wicket loss to Australia in the final last Sunday. In a touching move, PM Modi visited the team’s dressing room to console the players.
“After the defeat, we were in the dressing room, and our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, visited us. He met everyone and provided motivation. PM Modi emphasised that sports involve both victories and losses, and it’s part of the game. He encouraged us to take it in our stride. While it will take some time to move on from the loss, his uplifting talk for about 5-6 minutes meant a great deal to us. It was significant for the leader of our country to come to the dressing room and boost the team. We listened attentively and spent valuable time with him,” shared Suryakumar Yadav.
The 33-year-old batsman expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support during the World Cup campaign. In the T20Is that followed, India secured a thrilling two-wicket victory in Visakhapatnam, and the stands were packed as the team made a comeback.
“It’s been about 4-5 days since the World Cup 2023 finals, and everyone, including us, is feeling disappointed. However, we appreciate the incredible support from our fans in India and around the world. In the end, it’s just a sport, and it teaches us valuable lessons. Please continue to show your love and support for us,” stated Suryakumar Yadav.
