On 11 October 1942, Amitabh Bachchan was born to the famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and social activist Teji Bachchan in Allahabad. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was an Awadhi Hindu Kayastha, who was fluent in Awadhi, Urdu, and Hindi. Bacchan’s ancestors come from a village called Babupatti, in the Raniganj tehsil, in the Pratapgarh district, in the present-day state of Uttar Pradesh, in India. Amitabh’s mother Teji Bachchan was a Punjabi Sikh Khatri from Lyallpur, Punjab, British India (present-day Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan). Amitabh Bachchan, his younger brother is 5 years younger than him.
2. Career
In 1969, Amitabh Bachchan made his film debut, as a voice narrator in a National Award-winning movie Bhuvan Shome by Mrinal Sen. His debut film was Saat Hindustani where he played the role of one of the seven protagonists. Saat Hindustani was directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and featured Utpal Dutt, Anwar Ali, Madhu, and Jalal Agha. He also starred alongside Rajesh Khanna in the movie Anand (1971) and played the role of a doctor. Bachchan also received his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Bachchan played his first role of antagonist as a fascinated lover-turned-murderer in Parwana (1971). There were many popular films after Parwana including Reshma Aur Shera (1971). During this time, he also appeared in the film Guddi which featured his wife Jaya Bhaduri.
His golden period started when he appeared in the movie, Zanjeer. The movie was a huge success and one of the highest-earning movies of that year, breaking all the records at the box office and making him popular.
