Last night (December 4), Dinesh Phadnis, renowned for portraying Fredricks in the popular crime show CID, passed away at the age of 57. The actor, who was in a life-threatening condition, succumbed to his illness around 12 am. He had been receiving treatment at Tunga Hospital in Mumbai. Today (December 5), his last rites will be conducted. And the entire star cast of CID, the longest-running show, is currently present at his residence. Dayanand, also known as Daya, confirmed the news.
Media reports indicate that Dinesh was in critical condition. And receiving ventilator support while battling liver damage. Previously, there were claims of the actor experiencing a heart attack. Which Dayanand Shetty had refuted.
It was a liver damage confirmed by Daya
In a Pinkvilla interview, Dayanand aka Daya disclosed that Dinesh is grappling with liver damage, not a heart attack. He further stated that the actor is currently in critical condition.
Responding to reports about Dinesh Phadnis suffering a heart attack, Dayanand Shetty, known for portraying Daya in CID, clarified, “To clarify, it wasn’t a heart attack but rather liver damage. They swiftly took him to Tunga Hospital, Malad. Over the past two days, his condition has remained critical. As of this Sunday morning, there hasn’t been significant improvement. We remain hopeful for his swift recovery.”
He further commented, “Dinesh was undergoing treatment for a different ailment. But the medication had an adverse impact on his liver. This underscores the importance of being cautious with medications. It’s crucial to take medicines with care. As there’s always a risk that a medication intended to treat one condition could lead to another significant ailment. Vigilance is essential, especially with allopathic medicines.”

When questioned about his communication with Dinesh Phadnis, Dayanand emphasised the strong bond within the entire CID team. He stated that the cast and crew frequently gather for small reunions, highlighting that they maintain constant contact and have always stayed connected.
Now Daya revealed about the death of Dinesh Phadnis
In response to ETimes TV reaching out, Dinesh’s close friend and co-star Dayanand Shetty verified the information, stating, “Indeed, it is true that he has passed away. The incident occurred approximately at 12:08 am. I am currently at his residence, and they have scheduled his last rites for today at the Daulat Nagar crematorium. Nearly everyone from CID is currently in attendance.”
