In the upcoming movie “Sam Bahadur,” Vicky Kaushal is set to portray the real-life hero Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Hence creating much anticipation with its trailer. Surprisingly, director Meghna Gulzar didn’t initially choose him for the role. Rumours suggest that Meghna Gulzar initially considered casting the well-known Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who had recently delivered a hit, for the role in Sam Bahadur.
Ranveer Singh’s strange behaviour
Reportedly, she approached Ranveer for the part while she was working with Deepika Padukone on Chhapaak. Yet, the actor gained muscle through projects like Kabir Khan’s 83, Karan Johar’s Takht and Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy when Meghna offered him the role. Meghna firmly decided and went to Vicky Kaushal for the part after waiting for Ranveer to find time for a basic storyline narration. Vicky Kaushal agreed to take on the role.
Meghna Gulzar directs the film narrating the life of Sam Manekshaw, the inaugural Indian Army officer to achieve the rank of Field Marshal. And serve as Chief of the Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. Besides Vicky Kaushal, the movie also stars significant roles played by Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. It hits theatres on December 1.
The movie is gearing up for a showdown with Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna. Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It is a revenge drama depicting a father-son relationship forged in blood.
Vicky Kaushal is on a roll with his third movie of the year. Following Zara Hatke Zara Backe and The Great Indian Family. After Sam Bahadur, he’s all set for another release, Dunki, alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, and Boman Irani. Rajkumar Hirani is directing the film, and it is set to hit theaters on December 22.
Vicky Kaushal was not ready playing Sam Bahadur
On Tuesday, Vicky Kaushal revealed that he initially doubted the suitability of his looks for the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur. During the trailer launch at Mumbai’s Manekshaw Centre, Kaushal mentioned that Gulzar expressed her wish to create a biopic on Manekshaw while they were filming their 2018 movie Raazi.

The Army Chief General Manoj Pande was present at the trailer launch. Along with Vicky Kaushal’s co-stars Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, director Meghna Gulzar and producer Ronnie Screwvala. Sam Bahadur will depict Manekshaw’s more than 40-year career, covering crucial moments like his participation in World War II. And serving as the Chief of Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. which resulted in the formation of Bangladesh, as stated by the creators.
