In the cloak-and-dagger realm of social media, an unexplained uninstall trend on Twitter/X surrounds MakeMyTrip. As intrigue deepens, the elusive figures behind the company’s decisions remain shrouded in mystery, while Prashant Pitti, the executive director of EaseMyTrip, takes a surprising step by suspending reservations to the Maldives indefinitely. Amidst the enigma, MakeMyTrip emerges with cryptic revelations, announcing a surge in searches for Lakshadweep following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, accompanied by the launch of a clandestine campaign unveiling India’s “stunning beaches.”
As the viral uninstall trend gains momentum on Twitter/X, there’s a growing curiosity about the key figures behind MakeMyTrip. Social media users, unimpressed with the provided data, vehemently demand the company to cease travel plans to the Maldives. This call is fuelled by disparaging comments made by some of the country’s ministers about Prime Minister Modi.
Chinese CEO running the company
Demanding the suspension of Maldives bookings, the internet buzzes with discontent. MakeMyTrip reported a staggering 3400% surge in on-platform searches for Lakshadweep since the Honourable PM’s visit, as stated in a news flash on X. They not only acknowledged the heightened interest in Indian beaches but also initiated a ‘Beaches of India’ campaign with tempting deals and discounts.
Despite the article amassing over 170K views within hours, comments flooded in, urging the removal of Maldives as a destination on the platform. Some users threatened to switch to EasyMyTrip, lauding their decision to cancel all flight schedules to the Maldives. Amidst the turmoil, a Twitter/X trend emerges, calling for the uninstallation of the app, fuelled by rumours about the company having Chinese directors.
The MakeMyTrip Board of Directors includes Aditya Tim Guleri, Cindy Xiaofan Wang, Deep Kalra, James Jianzhang Liang, Jane Jie Sun, and Paul Laurence Halpin, with Rajesh Magow as the Co-Founder & Group CEO. Founded by Deep Kalra, an alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, MakeMyTrip navigates a turbulent course as users express dissatisfaction and concerns on various platforms.

As the controversy ensues over the comments made by three suspended Maldivian ministers about Prime Minister Modi, it aligns with President Mohamed Muizzu’s inaugural state visit to China, set for January 8–12. This departure from the norm among most Maldivian leaders, who traditionally opt for New Delhi as their primary international destination, adds an intriguing layer to the unfolding events.
