Abhijeet Bhattacharya, a popular Bollywood playback singer famous for hits like “Chaand Taare” and “Hum To Deewane Huye,” sparked controversy with recent remarks labeling Shah Rukh Khan as a ‘commercial person.’ Despite delivering numerous successful tracks for the actor, Bhattacharya’s statement has caused a buzz on social media, drawing attention to the unexpected criticism of Shah Rukh Khan’s commercial approach in the entertainment industry.

Abhijeet calls SRK selfish

In a recent chat with Lehren Retro, Abhijeet highlighted the similarities between him and Shah Rukh Khan, including their shared zodiac sign, Scorpio. The singer emphasized that both he and Shah Rukh have a sense of self-respect, not ego. Abhijeet acknowledged Shah Rukh’s self-made journey and expressed that they both share a common nature. According to him, their dates of birth are close, and while they don’t carry arrogance, they both value their self-esteem. This sheds light on the singer’s perspective, emphasizing commonalities and downplaying any notion of ego between the two.

He said, “Jo ho gaya, so ho gaya. Dekhiye, ek hota hai ego aur ek hota hai self-respect ya self-esteem Shah Rukh Khan apne dam se bana hai. Uske andar jo self-respect hai, jo swabhiman hai, woh same mere mein bhi hai. Woh bhi Scorpio hai. Humara date ek din age piche hai, nature same hai humara. Toh humko ghamand nahi hai, lekin humko swabhiman hai.”

He remembered attempting to mend things between them and patching things up, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. He expressed, “Shah Rukh is a very commercial person, wo apni success apne career ke liye kisiko bhi side mein kar sakta hai. Woh use karega unko (Shah will sideline any person for his success & career, he’ll use them).” This highlights Abhijeet’s perspective on Shah Rukh Khan’s approach in the industry, suggesting a focus on personal success even if it means sidelining others.

I won’t sing again!

The singer strongly opposed labeling Shah Rukh Khan as ‘anti-nationalist,’ emphasizing that it’s entirely wrong. Abhijeet argued that Shah Rukh is, in fact, an exemplary nationalist, evident in movies like “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani,” “Swades,” and “Asoka.” He questioned how anyone could make such a claim, especially considering Shah Rukh’s promotion of Hindu culture in his films. Abhijeet attributed the accusations to individuals who distorted their commercial differences, tarnishing Shah Rukh’s image. In the singer’s view, among the Khans, Shah Rukh Khan stands out as the sole nationalist.

The singer, who sang in Shah Rukh Khan’s movies such as “Chalte Chalte,” “Yes Boss,” and “Main Hoon Na,” stated to TOI, “It is these songs that have immortalised Shah Rukh. I will never sing for him again.”

At the India Today Safaigiri Summit and Awards 2018, he claimed that SRK achieved superstardom because of his voice. He asserted, “I made superstars with my voice. Till the time I sang for Shah Rukh Khan, he was a rock star. When I stopped singing for him – and I stopped singing for him – he came down to Lungi Dance.
