While Siddharth Malhotra plays the role of the Paramvir Chakra awardee, Vikram Batra in the movie, Dimple Cheema is played by Kiara Advani. She’s the lady who never got married after Capt. Dimple Cheema was the girlfriend and Fiancé of Capt. Vikram Batra. In the 1999 Kargil War, Capt. Vikram Batra was martyred. In the year 1995, Dimple met Vikram Batra for the first time at Punjab University. Back then, Vikram just finished his bachelor’s degree in English.
Vikram cleared his CDS in the first year of his master’s degree as he always wanted to join the army. He left the university but his heart remained with Dimple. For a year, they dated each other and then got engaged before Vikram’s posting to Kargil.
Dimple decided not to marry anyone else in her life after Vikram’s death and preferred to live her life as his widow. There has been no day that Dimple has not remembered him in the past 22 years. Dimple believes that Vikram and her love was immortal and will be with her forever. Dimple said in an interview, “I know in my heart we are destined to meet again, it’s just a matter of time.”
Love Story Of Vikram Batra And Dimple Cheema
In 1996, Vikram got selected for the Army and joined Indian Military Academy. Before that, he dated Dimple for a year after meeting her at the Punjab University in 1995. Even though Vikram couldn’t stay with Dimple for long, but his love never faded for her. Their love became profound after even having distance in their relationship. They became inseparable by heart while the love and understanding between the two got stronger with time.
Vikram only got to meet Dimple during his holidays and the two used to talk about their future and life together. After spending 4 years of their life together, which includes dating and knowing each other, they became extremely serious and wanted to get married.
Vikram Batra Filled ‘Mang’ Of Dimple
Dimple was always worried about his long posting and their long-distance relationship. The two used to talk about the same whenever Vikram came back home. One day, as usual, Dimple picked the topic again. In response, Vikram Btara cut his thumb and filled her “mang” with his blood.
Even today, Dimple recalls that specific moment and in an interview, she said, “On one of his visits, I raised the issue of marriage as I was feeling a bit insecure. Without saying anything, he took a blade out of his wallet, cut his thumb, and filled my mang with his blood.” She further continued, “That is the most cherished moment of my life to date. Then, later on, I used to tease him that he is pure filmy.”
Marriage Of Vikram Batra With Dimple Cheema
The two decided that they would soon get married while Vikram was home during his holidays in March. Vikram promised Dimple to come back and marry her after he got his orders to report back during the Kargil War. Vikram even shared his plans with his mother and said about the girl he likes and wants to get married to. It really makes everyone’s heart wrench after knowing they were about to get married once Vikram returned back from Kargil.
But sadly, Capt. Vikram left the world on July 7, 1999, and destiny played its role. Dimple decided to be his widow after his martyrdom and never got married in her life. Now, Dimple is living in Chandigarh, the place where their love story started, and also the place where they spent the 4 years of their relationship together.

While talking about Dimple and Vikram Batra’s relationship, in an interview with Indian Express, Kiara said, “It was very warm because it was only the both of us. I was in Chandigarh shooting for something else, and it was all thanks to Vishal Batra, who made us meet.” She continued, “There was no one else in the room, and she spoke, and I just listened to her. She reminisced about all her memories, their moments. How things were back then, writing letters, trunk calls.”
She explained, “It wasn’t as easy as it is today to have a long-distance relationship. In those four years, even though it was only a couple of times that they might have even physically met, you are so much in love with each other that you decide this is for eternity.” She further added, “And that’s a choice you make. Today to see someone actually decide and choose – I don’t want to marry anyone else ever in my life, imagine what it speaks for the love they had.”
