Samsung Galaxy S24: From Price to Specifications all You Need to Know

Earlier this year, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S23 series, quickly establishing itself as the preferred choice for many Android smartphone users. While the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra received positive reviews. But there is room for enhancement across all three devices. This anticipation heightens for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series. And with numerous rumours circulating, there is already a substantial insight into what to anticipate. Here’s a comprehensive overview to keep you informed.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Launch Date in India

While Samsung has not officially confirmed the unveiling date for the Galaxy S24, we can estimate based on the launch patterns of recent generations. Unexpectedly deviating from this schedule would be surprising. And a post by the reliable Samsung leaker Ice Universe on Chinese social media platform Weibo hints at an earlier launch compared to the past few years. Given Ice Universe’s credibility in Samsung-related leaks, it is probable that the announcement might occur around this time. Should this hold true, anticipate the phones hitting the market in late January or early February 2024.

As per a report by The Elec, Samsung might unveil the Galaxy S24 series at an Unpacked event in San Jose, California, on January 17, 2024. While Samsung has previously launched its Galaxy S series in January. This event would mark the company’s return to a January launch after a three-year gap.

Samsung Galaxy S24 price

In recent years, Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have maintained relatively stable prices. Starting at $800 for the entry-level S23 model in the U.S., $1,000 for the S23 Plus model. And around $1,200 for the S23 Ultra model.

As of now, information on Galaxy S24 pricing remains undisclosed. It’s prudent to presume that the prices will align with those of earlier models. Notably, Samsung and carriers provide trade-in incentives and financing alternatives, potentially reducing overall costs.

Design of Samsung Galaxy S24

Recent rumours have hinted at potential design changes for the upcoming S24 series. In September, Smart prix, in collaboration with @OnLeaks, shared renders purportedly depicting the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra. While GizNext provided renders for the Galaxy S24 Plus in early October.

If the renders are accurate, it is expected that the S24 series will feature flat screens. Departing from the curved edges seen in previous generations. This change, due to the absence of curved glass, is likely to result in even slimmer bezels. With the Galaxy S24 Ultra possibly boasting the thinnest bezels to date for a Samsung smartphone. While resembling the S23 series in many aspects, Smart prix suggests the S24 Ultra could have flat metallic side rails with rounded edges, similar to the S23 Ultra.

In a notable shift, mirroring the iPhone 15 Pro series, The Elec suggests that the Galaxy S24 Ultra might introduce a titanium frame for the first time. This change could significantly reduce the weight of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, potentially by as much as 10%.

@Tech_Reve indicates that the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are expected to closely resemble their current counterparts in overall design.

Samsung Galaxy S24 specifications

Leakers have exposed several key specifications for next year’s phones. When discussing specs and rumours, it’s crucial to acknowledge potential variations, especially this far in advance. However, as we approach the official unveiling, the confirmed specifications should become clearer.

According to Ice Universe on X (formerly Twitter), the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to boast a 6.8-inch WQHD display. With a 1440p resolution, reaching a peak brightness of 2,500 nits compared to the S23 Ultra’s 1,750 nits. Ice Universe also suggests that the S24 Plus might introduce a 6.7-inch WQHD display. Marking a departure from previous models. Meanwhile, there are anticipations that the S24 will feature a 6.2-inch FHD display. In a prior statement, Ice Universe indicated that both the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus would incorporate LTPO screens. Notable for their larger sizes compared to the S23 series.

Expect a notable shift in the chipset department. While the S23 series exclusively used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, for the S24 series. Samsung might revert to utilising Exynos chipsets alongside the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, as reported by The Elec, suggests that the processor choice will vary by region for the S24 and S24 Plus models, whereas the S24 Ultra will uniformly feature a Qualcomm chip in all markets.

Cameras of Samsung Galaxy S24

Regarding the camera specifications, current rumours primarily focus on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Similar to its predecessor, this phone is expected to maintain a 200MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. However, potential changes might be in store for the S24 Ultra’s telephoto lens.

Traditionally, the Ultra variant featured two 10MP cameras with 3x and 10x zoom capabilities. According to Ice Universe, the 3x zoom camera is likely to maintain a 10MP resolution, but the maximum zoom could decrease to 5x. However, this reduction is accompanied by a significantly higher sensor resolution of 50MP, which, despite sounding like a downgrade, translates to an improvement in overall image quality.

Additionally, there is speculation about the inclusion of an Instagram camera shortcut on the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung Galaxy S24 battery

Traditionally, a smartphone’s battery life tends to improve with a larger battery capacity, though exceptions exist. If this trend continues in 2024, we can anticipate enhancements across all three Galaxy S24 models.

Dutch news outlet Galaxy Club reports that the anticipated Galaxy S24 is expected to feature a 4,000 mAh battery, aligning with the one used in the Galaxy S21. In comparison, the Galaxy S22 has a 3,700 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S23 is equipped with a 3,900 mAh battery.

For the S24 Plus, there’s speculation about a 4,900 mAh battery, a notable upgrade compared to the S23 Plus’ 4,700 mAh cell. Meanwhile, rumours indicate that the S24 Ultra would maintain its current battery size at 5,000 mAh.

Software and Updates of Samsung Galaxy S24

The entire Galaxy S24 series is expected to debut with preinstalled Android 14, accompanied by either Samsung One UI 6 or 6.1, according to reports. The S23 series has recently started receiving the Android 14 update.

An intriguing aspect to observe will be the duration of Android updates Samsung commits to for the S24. While the Galaxy S23 currently receives a commendable four years of Android updates, it falls short of Google’s pledge for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which promises a minimum of seven years of support. Whether Samsung will align with this remains uncertain, but it is certainly a prospect we hope they consider.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Artificial Intelligence

The Korea Times reports that Samsung is anticipated to introduce a novel feature known as Samsung Gauss in the Galaxy S24 series. Samsung unveiled Gauss, a proprietary generative AI model, in early November, with a portion of its operations taking place locally on the device. The name pays homage to the renowned mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, credited with formulating the normal distribution theory.

Comprising three elements, Samsung Gauss includes Samsung Gauss Language for text generation, language translation, and question answering; Samsung Gauss Code to facilitate code writing and editing for developers; and Samsung Gauss Image, a tool designed for image generation. The integration of Gauss into the Galaxy S24 lineup would prove to be a compelling addition. In a landscape dominated by AI applications like ChatGPT and Google Bard, Gauss’s inclusion wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest.

Samsung Galaxy colours

For enthusiasts of vibrant hues, there’s promising news. Ice Universe suggests that the Galaxy S24 series might offer an array of colour choices, including black, grey, violet, yellow, green, blue, and orange. However, it’s important to note that not all of these colours may be available as standard editions or across all three phone models. Samsung also offers Bespoke editions for certain phones, providing users the opportunity to fully customise their designs.
