Despite the agency’s efforts to make these models realistic, the co-founders, Cruz and Núñez, emphasise that they do not foresee Lopez or her AI-generated peers rendering their human counterparts obsolete. According to them, the introduction of AI models is not about eliminating the traditional approach. But rather providing an additional option.

Aitana Lopez: Idea or Necessity?

In the summer of 2022, facing a challenging period with insufficient clients, The Clueless underwent a reevaluation of their operations. Cruz highlighted that they observed most of their projects experiencing delays or cancellations. Often attributable to issues beyond their control. And more linked to the influencers or models involved rather than design problems. Recognising the need for a more stable approach, they decided to create their own influencer. To serve as a model for companies approaching them. This strategic move aimed at achieving financial independence. And avoiding dependence on individuals with egos, idiosyncrasies, or purely profit-oriented motives, as stated by Cruz in an interview with Euro news.

How much did Aitana Lopez earn?

AI-generated models are on the verge of potentially replacing influencers and runway models. Lopez, the inaugural AI influencer in Spain created by a modelling agency, is earning an impressive $11,000 per month, equivalent to Rs 9,15,407. According to reports, she commands a fee of $1090 (about Rs 90,700) per advertisement.

Pixels or Person?

Lopez and Lima, both having AI in their first names, represent the latest wave of AI-generated individuals blurring the distinction between machine-driven entities and those with flesh and bones. This trend extends to public-facing virtual figures like newscasters, AI K-pop band members, and virtual models, sparking concerns about unrealistic beauty standards that could negatively impact young girls.

Observing images of these models, it becomes challenging to discern their digital nature, although some exceptions exist. For instance, in a photo of Lopez, the peculiar contours of her left bicep differ from the more convincingly rendered right arm. In other instances, her gaze with glassy brown eyes appears cartoonish, and her bust size varies significantly from one photo to another.

Despite these anomalies, Lopez’s popularity continues to grow on platforms like Instagram, X, and TikTok. The hashtag #aimodel on these accounts hasn’t disrupted the admiration. She is also present on Fanvue, a platform akin to OnlyFans, and according to Cruz, Lopez even has some celebrity admirers, including a well-known Latin American actor who, unbeknownst to him, asked her out.

The Clueless crafted Aitana Lopez using its proprietary software, and she made her Instagram debut in early July, actively responding to comments in both Spanish and English. However, more people seem to be recognising her true nature, likely due to the subtle visual irregularities that hint at her algorithmic origins, her media coverage as “Spain’s first AI model,” and the growing awareness of AI’s influence in our culture.

In response to declarations of love, one Instagram user cautioned another, stating, “Easy, boy. It is some lines of code.”
