Trolls targeted Babar Azam big time in the recent ICC World Cup 2023 because he didn’t live up to expectations with the bat. Despite being the top ODI batter at the beginning of the tournament, he couldn’t manage a single century throughout the competition.
Pakistan didn’t make it to the semi-finals under Babar Azam’s captaincy. Adding to that, they faced a significant blow by losing to Afghanistan, causing a lot of embarrassment. As a result, Babar Azam faced criticism for his leadership.
Iceland cricket team trolled Babar Azam
The Cricket World Cup 2023 turned out to be a forgettable experience for the Pakistan team and their captain, Babar Azam. Despite being highly regarded as a batter, Babar couldn’t make a significant impact on the big stage, leading to a change in the team’s captaincy. Just when the cricket community was trying to move past Babar and Pakistan’s World Cup disappointment, Iceland cricket pulled off an epic troll on the star batter while responding to a non-cricket post on X (formerly Twitter).
During the Cricket World Cup 2023, Babar Azam managed to score just 320 runs in 9 matches, with an average of 40. Unfortunately, he couldn’t come up with any match-winning performances that matched his reputation. As a result, Pakistan got eliminated in the league stage of the tournament.
‘Word of Statistics’ asked on X, “What is something that still hasn’t gone back to normal after the pandemic?”
In response, Iceland Cricket humorously stated, “The batting average of Babar Azam.”

Babar Azam’s disappointing performance in WC 2023
Babar Azam has gathered a total of 5729 runs in 117 ODIs with an impressive average of 56.72. In T20Is, the standout batter scored 3485 runs in 104 matches at an average of 41.48. His Test record includes 3772 runs in 49 matches, boasting an average of 47.74.
Following a disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, Babar Azam stepped down as the captain of the Pakistan team in all three formats.
Shan Masood is now the captain for Pakistan in Tests, and Shaheen Afridi is leading in T20Is. The announcement for the T20I captain is still pending and will be made soon by the board.
Now that he’s relieved of captaincy duties, Babar aims to concentrate entirely on his batting, hoping to return to his previous form. Pakistan’s upcoming challenge involves facing the formidable Australians in a Test series, with the Aussies holding titles in both the ICC World Test Championship and ODI World Cup.
Azam is currently in the training camp with the Test team as they prepare for the upcoming series against Australia. The first match of the Pakistan vs Australia Test series is set to kick off on December 14.
