In a recent interview, Sunil Lahri, famous for playing Laxman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, expressed surprise over not receiving an invitation to the Ayodhya Ram temple inauguration, unlike his co-stars Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia, who portrayed Ram and Sita. Lahri, while taken aback, clarified he wasn’t upset about the exclusion.

In a recent interview with ETimes, Sunil Lahri disclosed that he didn’t feel upset about not receiving an invitation to the Ayodhya Ram temple inauguration, where his co-stars Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia were invited. Lahri expressed his disappointment but clarified it didn’t affect him. He speculated that the organisers might not have deemed his character significant or could have personal issues. Additionally, he was surprised that none of the Ramayan crew members were invited to the event.

The actor expressed that when someone arranges a function, invitations are not obligatory every time. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that being part of a moment with historical significance would have been a gratifying experience.

Reflecting on his exclusion, Sunil Lahri suggested that the organizers might have deemed his role as Laxman unimportant or held personal reservations against him. Additionally, he expressed surprise at the absence of invitations for anyone from the crew of the show Ramayan to attend the event.

Ramanand Sagar created, wrote, and directed the show, which originally aired on DD National between 1987 and 1988. Ashok Kumar and Ramanand Sagar served as the narrator and director, respectively. The cast included Arun Govil as Ram, Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Laxman, Arvind Trivedi as Raavan, and Daara Singh as Hanuman. Ravindra Jain composed the music. BBC reported that the serial garnered over 650 million viewers.

In a prior interview with IANS, Sunil shared his experience portraying Laxman in Ramayan. He expressed, “When I was shooting for Ramayan, I didn’t have any reference from the past for the character of Laxman and whatever little I have managed to do, it is because of the guidance of Sagar Saab (Ramanand Sagar). The credit goes to him and the writers of the television serial.”
