Twinkle Khanna, was a well-known actress in the Bollywood film industry in the 90s and early 2000s. She is the daughter of late actor Rajesh Khanna and actress Dimple Kapadia. She appeared in some popular films like Baadshah, Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan, Mela, Dil Tera Diwana, etc. But eventually, she gave up acting to pursue her passion which is writing.

Three bestselling novels have been published by the actress so far. She also regularly writes her opinions on various issues in a newspaper column. In her latest column, she addressed the success of Kashmir Files and the Oscars ‘slapgate’.

The Kashmir Files, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, turned out to be this year’s biggest Bollywood hit, despite facing stiff competition from SS Rajamouli’s RRR. Many Bollywood celebrities came out to support the Vivek Agnihotri-directed film, but the actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna has taken a dig at the film.

In her column for The Times of India, the former Bollywood actress joked about how several filmmakers are rushing to register the names of different cities to use them in the titles of their movies, after the success of Vivek Agnihotri’s movie The Kashmir Files.

The author of Mrs. Funnybones wrote,

“In a meeting at a producer’s office, I am informed that there is a deluge of fresh movie titles being registered as an homage to The Kashmir Files. Since larger cities have already been claimed, now the poor chaps are registering names like Andheri Files, Khar-Danda Files, and even South Bombay Files. I am just wondering if my colleagues can still call themselves filmmakers, or with all this filing, they, like the original nationalist, Manoj Kumar, have all turned into clerks.”

The actress also added her subtle attack on Vivek Agnihotri’s film,

“I am going to make a movie called Nail File,” to which Dimple asked, “About what? A disastrous manicure.” “Maybe, but at least it’s better than putting the final nail into the communal coffin.”

Meanwhile, her husband, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar praised the film, The Kashmir Files whose latest release, Bachchhan Paandey, flopped at the box office.

In a viral video, the Khiladi actor was heard saying,

“All of us, we want to tell stories of our country. Some may be well-known, others not as much. For example, Vivek has made The Kashmir Files that brought a painful truth to the fore and shook us all. That it caused my film (Bachchhan Paandey) to flop is a different issue.”

Post the success of The Kashmir Files, Vivek Agnihotri is now all set to work on his next project titled, The Delhi Files.
