Meghna firmly decided and went to Vicky Kaushal for the part after waiting for Ranveer to find time for a basic storyline narration. Vicky Kaushal agreed to take on the role.

Meghna Gulzar directs the film narrating the life of Sam Manekshaw, the inaugural Indian Army officer to achieve the rank of Field Marshal. And serve as Chief of the Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. Besides Vicky Kaushal, the movie also stars significant roles played by Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
