Behind the Scenes

The waste and blue cleaning solution are directed to a storage tank located beneath the aircraft’s floor at the rear of the cargo hold. Given the considerable restroom usage by passengers, the storage tank is sizeable. The mechanism is comparable to household vacuum cleaners used for floor cleaning. Similar to how vacuumed dirt goes into a container, airplane toilets rely on a vacuum pressure system. This system transports waste from the toilet through plumbing pipes, ultimately reaching the storage tank.

A valve on the storage tank opens during a toilet flush and closes when the toilet is inactive, preventing odors from escaping. This feature aims to mitigate the odors resulting from numerous passengers using the toilet during a flight. The addition of a blue chemical further contributes to odour control.

Disposal Process After Landing

Upon landing, a specialized truck arrives at the aircraft, attaching a hose to extract both waste and the blue cleaning chemical into a storage tank on the truck. The hose is connected to the airplane’s waste tank valve, facilitating the transfer of all waste into the truck’s tank. Subsequently, the truck transports the waste to a designated airport area allocated for airplane waste. Here, the toilet waste is discharged into the airport’s sewer system. The training period for operating the truck spans three days.

Potential Leaks and Frozen Waste

There have been reports, especially with older planes, of potential leaks from the valve where the waste truck connects to the aeroplane. In colder temperatures at the normal cruising altitude of 30,000 feet (around -56°C), the leaked waste and blue chemical can freeze, forming what is known as “blue ice.” This frozen residue stays attached to the plane as long as the temperature remains below freezing.

As the aeroplane descends for landing, the blue ice begins to thaw and might even fall off. There have been instances reported in the news where observers witnessed this phenomenon, colloquially referred to as “flying poo.”

Contrary to speculation, the captain of the plane does not have a button to intentionally release waste from the storage tank during flight. Any leakage would be entirely accidental.

Additionally, some people mistakenly believe that aeroplane contrails (the white lines sometimes seen in the sky) contain special mind-control chemicals or toilet waste. In reality, these lines are composed of water vapours from the engine that turn into ice crystals, creating a thin cloud-like appearance in the sky.

Possibility of Blocking an Airplane Toilet

While it’s not a common occurrence, causing a blockage in an airplane toilet can render it unusable for the duration of the flight. Unfortunately, there is no established procedure for resolving a clogged lavatory mid-flight, and it requires servicing on the ground. Consequently, when such an issue arises, the toilet is deemed “out of service” until the aircraft lands and maintenance can address the obstruction.

Airplane toilets undergo cleaning and sanitation by contracted cleaners after each flight, similar to the cleaning process of household toilets. Cleaning crews equipped with mops, brushes, disinfectants, and other tools ensure the cabins and lavatories are maintained to hygiene standards.

Valued at over Rs 5–6 crores each, these Rolls-Royce automobiles boast distinctive number plates incorporating the numbers “1” and “27” in both single- and double-digit configurations. As reported by Cartoq, the extravagant price tags of these exclusive number plates range from $8 to $10 million (approximately Rs 60 to 84 crore), surpassing the value of the Rolls-Royce vehicles they adorn. Notably, Abu Salah made headlines a few months ago for acquiring a new Rolls-Royce Cullinan and selecting the registration number “Dubai D 5.”

The staggering price of approximately Rs 10 crore for his Cullinan may have surprised some, but the truly astounding revelation was the exorbitant cost of its license plate. Media reports indicate that the registration plates for this particular Cullinan reached an astronomical figure of $17 million (roughly Rs 141 crore).

Abu Salah showcases not only his black Mercedes-AMG G63 but also its unique single-digit number, in addition to his Rolls-Royce cars. The video also offers a glimpse inside his luxurious residence, adorned with Bentley-crafted custom furniture showcasing exquisite craftsmanship.

According to Sharma, they were filming in the streets of Banaras, and as per the scene’s script, Nana’s character was required to hit a boy on the head. This revelation aims to dispel speculations surrounding the actor’s behavior, emphasizing that the incident was a scripted part of the filmmaking process rather than an unprovoked real-life altercation. The clarification from the director adds context to the incident, highlighting the importance of discerning between real-life events and scripted actions in the realm of celebrity encounters.

“But the crowd gathered there recorded it on their mobile cameras and then leaked the shot of the film. Now, Nana is being projected as a negative and rude actor on social media, which is completely wrong. Through Aaj Tak, I would request that the fans understand the truth of this video. This is a shot from the film. Nana has not hit anyone,” added Sharma

The reported incident transpired in Varanasi, where Nana Patekar, previously implicated in the #MeToo movement, was actively shooting for the film Journey. “The video which is circulating on social media has been misinterpreted by many. What actually happened was a misunderstanding during the rehearsal of a shot from my upcoming film ‘Journey’,” said Patekar.

In the apology video, Nana provided an explanation for the sequence of events, stating that the incident took place in Varanasi. He clarified, “There is a video that’s going viral, where I am seen hitting a boy. It is a sequence from our film. We had to do a rehearsal where, as part of our scene, a man asks me, ‘Aey budhau topi bechni hai kya? because I am wearing a hat. So, he comes, I hit him and tell him to not misbehave and then he runs.”

“We had done one rehearsal, we had to do one more. We were about to begin when the boy in the video came inside and I didn’t know who he was, I thought he was our guy. So I hit him as per the scene and told him that he should not misbehave but then I realised he was not our guy. By the time I started calling him back, he ran away.” added the film star.

According to PTI, Anil mentioned, “People have a problem of making fuss out of nothing… We are currently filming in Banaras for the film, Journey. Patekar’s character has dementia in the film. Ex-Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja strongly criticized the bowlers and the nation’s cricket board for the team’s dismal showing in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Under Babar Azam’s captaincy, Pakistan couldn’t secure a spot in the semi-finals, concluding at the fifth position in the points table after the league stage. The team faced defeat in five out of nine matches, notably an unsettling eight-wicket loss to Afghanistan. Ramiz, unreserved in his critique, didn’t hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction with both the bowling performance and the management of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“Jab naye ball pe aap out nahi karenge, jab aap expensive se expensive hote jayenge toh Babar Azam kya khaak kapataani karega (When bowlers would not take wickets with the new ball and start getting more and more expensive, how would Babar Azam do captaincy then?),” said Ramiz Raja.

“And then they (PCB) would gather some ex-cricketers and ask them how to fix cricket? Who put them in charge (of the board)? Is their job just to huddle together and change the captain and the coaching staff and think they have taken a major step? Not even an inch of Pakistan’s cricket can get better if you don’t have passion for the game. You need to change yourself and your mindset. You need to shut this process of leaking news,” stated Ramiz Raja.

Ramiz also criticized the disclosure of the messages allegedly exchanged between Zaka Ashraf and Babar.

“The new chief selector that you’ve appointed, look at his old clips and how badly he has talked about Babar and Rizwan, you want your cricket to progress by appointing a 70-year-old who knows nothing about selection?” the former captain said.

Pakistan’s exit in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup, securing fifth place with four wins in nine matches attracted criticism. While the critique, though controversial, primarily focused on Pakistan’s on-field performance, an old video featuring Inzamam-ul-Haq sparked anger in India on Tuesday. This led Harbhajan Singh to share a strongly-worded tweet condemning the former Pakistan captain.

In the video, Inzamam asserted that Harbhajan Singh, along with other Indian cricketers, used to participate in the preaching sessions of Maulana Tariq Jameel, known for leading prayers with the Pakistan cricket team. Inzamam claimed that during a tour, he invited Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan, and Mohammad Kaif to join the prayer sessions, mentioning that Harbhajan also attended these sessions. Inzamam went on to suggest that the former Indian spinner was influenced by the preaching and even expressed a desire to convert.

“Maulana Tariq Jameel used to visit us daily. We had a designated room for Namaz. After the prayers, he would engage in discussions with us. After a day or two, we extended an invitation to Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan, and Mohammad Kaif for the prayers. I observed that 2-3 more Indian players would also join; they might not participate in the prayers but would listen to Maulana,” revealed Inzamam in the video.

“In one instance, Harbhajan told me, ‘My heart tells me to agree with whatever he (Maulana) says.’ I responded, ‘Then follow him. What’s holding you back?’ He replied, ‘I look at you, and then I hesitate. Your life isn’t like that.’ So, it is us who are not adhering to our religion. We are the ones to blame,” he added.

Harbhajan Singh, in response to these allegations, took to Twitter to convey his discontent. In a strongly worded tweet, Harbhajan stated, “What kind of intoxication is he under while speaking? I am a proud Indian and a proud Sikh. These people talk nonsense.”

Having participated in numerous tours of Pakistan with the Indian team, Harbhajan has maintained a cordial relationship with former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Earlier this year, the two also featured in an affectionate video during the Legends League Cricket, reminiscing about memorable moments from their past encounters.

In a subsequent video that gained widespread attention on social media, Inzamam, the former Pakistan captain and ex-Chief Selector, asserted that he and his teammate Saqlain Mushtaq attempted to convert foreigners and English players to Islam while playing for a club. Inzy also asserted in one of the videos that they approached West Indies legend Brian Lara with the idea of him embracing Islam.

Before Pakistan’s elimination from the World Cup, Inzamam stepped down from his role as the Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team amid accusations of a conflict of interest. Inzamam-ul-Haq is currently under investigation for alleged shareholding in ‘Yazo International Limited,’ a company linked to player agent Talha Rehmani.

The disclosure has raised worries about potential conflicts of interest, especially as Rehmani manages various notable Pakistani cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
