Sandra Green had very scarce appearances in the show but every time she comes in, we loved the storyline and the character too. We know Ross & Monica’s parents are coming then why not Rachel’s? Also, she loved hanging out with these young fellows as it made her feel lively and young.

Ben was Ross’s son who goes on disappearing from the later series. But we have seen him growing up from playing with dolls to making pranks with Ross on Rachel. We have seen his bond with Ross and the rest of the friends. So, seeing him again at the reunion all grown-up with the gang would be nice. Also, it’s not a hidden fact that Ben played by Cole Sprouse had a huge crush on Jennifer, so it would be great to see him blush while he sits next to her in the show and they discuss the time when he missed on his lines because of Jennifer.
Charles Bing was played by a woman whom we know as Kathleen Turner. Yes, she made her character in the show very convincing as we believed it when the show said he was like a woman in a man’s body. In an interview, she mentioned not receiving pleasant treatment at the show for unknown reasons. Maybe this was the time to make things up but the creators tried to miss it as well.
Hopefully, Chandler is at peace with his mom now! Though she had a scarce appearance in the show, her character was crucial and we would have enjoyed more of her. However, she wasn’t a great parent to Chandler. But that behind, she played her character quite well and helped us see an aspect of the society that we usually tend to ignore.
2. Ron Leibman – Dr. Leonard Green
Dr. Geller was an amusing personality who didn’t go very well with Ross all the time. Their meets were awkward and funny and that is what loved about him the most. But sadly the creators of the show can’t call him to the show as he died on December 6, 2019, at the age of 82. As per his agent, the cause of his death was pneumonia. We would miss you sir and we definitely would have loved to see him undermine Ross for one last time.
Mike was the boyfriend and later husband of Phoebe in the show. He has been cast later in the series but was excellent and was there till the end of the show. His relationship with Phoebe was beloved by the audience and he connected with the group quite smoothly. Considering the fact that he’s Phoebe’s husband now, it won’t be strange to see him in the show where they are meeting after such a long time. Also, his quirky sense of humor and perfect line delivery proves that he surely deserves to be in the reunion.

Even though due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the reunion has been massively delayed, now things are back on track. Warner Media Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt explained that he wants to cast the reunite in person, instead of virtually. He said, “We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together.”

It’s been over 15 years since the iconic show FRIENDS finished, but the hunger for more is still there. With its availability on Netflix, fans have become obsessed all over again. From wondering what our favorite characters might be up to these days, to picking out blunders that went unnoticed during the first 25 watches of the series, the show is never far from headlines. That is why people are wondering whether or not the much-loved Central Perk gang would reunite.
While we know there will be a lot of people who disagree with us, we don’t think that doing a FRIENDS reunion television show is a good idea. Like you, we are also a huge FRIENDS fan. In fact, it’s always on our binge-watch list. But quite frankly, the idea of a reunion episode might be the worst thing we have ever watched of FRIENDS. People waiting for the reunion, haven’t actually thought about what the reunion involves and that might be a reason why they are so positive about it. The show is so iconic that there is nothing to gain by bringing it back.
Before you grab the pitchforks, let’s check out why the FRIENDS reunion is possibly the bad idea in the history of FRIENDS:
FRIENDS theme song “I’ll be there for you..” is quite famous. It feels like a cozy blanket or a tight hug, when in need of one. Despite many plot holes, the show feels like our own transition from the ’20s to fully-fledged adulthood. So, if the characters reappear on our screens now, they would surely lack their original magic. Once Matt LeBlanc said, “I don’t think anyone wants to see Joey at his colonoscopy! I think it’s better for people to just leave it.”
Well, that is not what we meant but he made the point clear. In February 2018, in an interview with 97.3FM Bianca, Terry & Bob, Matt said, “I understand that people really want to see that reunion but that show was about a finite period in those characters’ lives, between 20 and 30. To see what those characters are doing now, I think it’s almost a case that the book is better than the movie. Everyone’s imagination of what they’re doing now is better.”
2. It Hasn’t Worked Before, So Why Would It Work Now?
By the end of the 10 seasons, Chandler and Monica had the family with a house, Ross and Rachel finally got together, and Joey had a spin-off. This is the whole point. Once the show-makers have tried to develop or recreate the characters but it failed terribly. It went so wrong that the spin-off named Joey had to end midway.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Kevin S Bright said, “It didn’t allow Matt LeBlanc to have this carefree kind of lifestyle, and it tried to make Joey grow up – and I think that was a huge mistake. I think the transformation of Joey into a guy who doesn’t know how to get a date, who doesn’t have any friends – I think that made the audience go away.” So the point is, with time even the characters get matured in their own stories and their lives change too but to put that on TV might be catastrophic because the audience might not be ready to accept it ever. Most of us miss the show, but on a closer look, they actually miss the friendship, dates, and bond among those six people. But given the changes in their lives, those elements won’t be the same. So would you be willing to watch that?
Many fans might argue that the show can be appreciated within the timeframe it was aired. But, there is no denying the fact that few storylines in the show did not age well. The writers themselves acknowledged that, if the show was aired today, a decade and a half later, they would scrap some of the mean recurring jokes. In an interview with USA Today, Marta Kauffman said, “I think we didn’t have the knowledge about transgender people back then, so I’m not sure if we used the appropriate terms.”
Kathleen Turner, who played the role of Chandler’s father has previously said that FRIENDS did not pass the test of time. Marta said, “I don’t think it’s aged well. It was a 30-minute sitcom. It became a phenomenon, but no one ever took it seriously as a social comment.” There were also some other problematic storylines such as fat-shaming Monica, a general lack of diversity, and many more. If the characters were introduced now with their backstories, there’d be the huge dilemma of how to handle these storylines through a 2021 lens.
At the end of the final series, the group has settled down. Monica and Chandler were about to begin their new family with two kids in the new house while Ross and Rachel got back together. And this time, probably for real and for a long-lasting bond. On the other hand, Joey might have settled down by now as well. So, if they are back then it wouldn’t be the same with New York in the background and Central Perk downstairs. There will be no more bad dates, no more weddings or divorces, no more dependency on friends, and many more things will be missing that bring the show closer to us. That is why FRIENDS reunion won’t be a good idea for fans.
Having said all of the above, earlier it seemed that the FRIENDS reunion is off the table. In an interview with Associated Press, Marta Kauffman made it clear that it is never going to happen. She said, “Why mess up a good thing? We wouldn’t want a reunion to disappoint fans.”
But as we all know, after months of rumors and anticipation, the FRIENDS reunion is finally happening. The HBO Max’s special will begin shooting next week in Los Angeles, as per the sources. And by now it’s confirmed that it would be an unscripted episode where the characters would meet and talk. But will you be satisfied with that single episode? You probably won’t! So the thirst for more and more of FRIENDS is never-ending. And even if the reunion comes up, the fans will never be satisfied. They will always crave for more and if they continue to feed that thirst, the show and the legacy will surely deteriorate after a while.

Ben Winston, “The Late Late Show” writer is set to direct the reunion. And the list of executive producers will be inflated by the FRIENDS creators David Crane, Marta Kauffman, and Kevin Bright as well. While James Longman and Emma Conway are co-executive producers of the most awaited reunion.
Recently, the discussion around the reunion has heated up after David Schwimmer spilled the tea to BBC talk show host, Graham Norton on Friday, April 2 that the FRIENDS cast would be filming the reunion special in a week. Since the FRIENDS reunion is unscripted, the actors will not necessarily be in their usual characters. They’ll simply be appearing as themselves. David said in the show, ” I’m going to LA to shoot the ‘Friends’ reunion. I will get to see everyone for the first time in years. I’ll be David. Nothing is scripted and we are not in character. We are all ourselves.” He continued, ” Although there is one section of it that I don’t want to give away, we all read something.”
He also admitted that he’ll have to refresh his memory by watching the old episodes once. So probably he might be busy watching the show while you are reading this article. In David’s words, he said, “I should have [studied] up on old episodes, but I just haven’t been able to bring myself to catch up on the 236 shows. I guess I need to watch a lot over the next five days!”
Even HBO once made it clear in a statement, “Lastly, in order to avoid any misunderstanding about what this special is, we want to make it very clear that this is not a new, original episode of the series.” They added, “The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.”
Greg Grande, who is the set designer of the original FRIENDS series posted on Instagram last year a sneak peek of the new FRIENDS sets. Unfortunately, covid did not allow the show to come live back then. But now everyone’s excited and it’s time that those sets be used again for the reunion.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live,” David Schwimmer once confirmed, “So, finally, I mean, we figured out a way to film it safely and there’s going to be a portion of it that we filmed outside because of, you know, for safety protocols.”

While the good news is FRIENDS reunion is finally happening, there is bad news too. The news is it won’t be that easy to watch, as the TV show once was. The reunion special will only air on HBO Max.
Friends Reunion Special will be available exclusively on HBO Max, and to watch it you might need a subscription to the streaming service. As of now, the app can be accessed in the United States and certain U.S. territories. You can download the app on Android, Amazon, Apple, Google Chromecast, PlayStation, Samsung, Roku, and Xbox devices. For those who already have subscribed to HBO services through their TV, digital, or mobile provider, or are subscribed to HBO’s previous app, HBO NOW, they can get access to the current app at no extra cost.
In case if you are planning to take a subscription then it might cost you around $14.99 per month, or $69.99 a month if you opt to subscribe for 6 months.
If you are waiting to watch it on third-party providers such as Amazon channels, Netflix, or Disney+ then you might be disappointed this time. The news about any third-party OTT App isn’t confirmed yet but we hope someone like Netflix or Amazon come up with the rights to broadcast the FRIENDS special as this might increase the reach to the audience.
HBO Max hasn’t yet announced the exact air date for the reunion, but we now know it is set to film in a few days. The special has already seen multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic but finally, it’s going to come true.
Last year the cast offered up to six tickets to attend the reunion special. The person who wins the contest was supposed to join in the filming. The result of this isn’t confirmed yet but we would like to keep you updated on this as well. Lisa Kudrow also seems all set for the FRIENDS reunion. In an interview with The Sunday Times, she said, “No audience has seen us together since the show was over. We will reminisce, talk about what was going on behind the scenes.” She further added, “It’s not us playing our characters. It’s not an episode. It’s not scripted. It’s six of us coming together for the first time in I don’t know how long.”
She reveals that she is very excited to meet her former castmates because they have so many memories together. She said, “I think that I remember things, but then I talk to Matt or Jennifer, and they remember everything. It’s really fun.”

Jennifer said, “We’ve been living together since 1994.” Even though it wasn’t a full-fledged reunion, it was an exciting surprise.
